Bowen Family Fishing Classic and Wet Weekend attracts record numbers

October 1, 2008 - The famous Bowen Family Fishing Classic and Wet Weekend held earlier this year recorded the biggest crowd numbers in its 17 year history.

Hosted along Santa Barbara Parade on Bowen’s front beach, a place known by many as the fishing paradise of Queensland, the event caters for serious anglers and curious families alike.

Thousands of people enjoyed the perfect weather, fantastic fishing and top notch entertainment, including live music and Honda sponsored competitions.

Bowen local Katrina Jensen won the major prize for this year’s event, a Honda powered Mako craft valued at over $30,000. Kayden Arthur took home the Honda powered junior boat worth $3,700, and David Golding picked up a brand new Honda EU10i generator.

While Rising Sun Honda donated a Honda CRF 250X Enduro bike to the ‘tagged fish’ competition, it remained unclaimed as no one managed to reel in the specially marked fish.

Last year a frustrated fisherman caught the tagged fish one day after the competition finished!

Most anglers donated their catch to “Meals on Wheels”, the charity for the elderly who now have a month’s worth of filleted fish to provide for their clients.

“We’re proud to have sponsored the major prizes for another year’s Bowen Classic. The competition was really exciting,” said Robert Johnson, Honda’s Queensland Marine Territory Manager.

“Honda has been associated with this event for the past 10 years and this has been the best one yet. Everyone always has a great time.”

“Thanks to Russel and Jan from Tropical Trailerboats, they give Honda great exposure and work hard to make the weekend a success.”
