Northern Territory Barramundi Expert Chooses Honda

14 October, 2008 - Dean Jackson is an adventure tour guide extraordinaire who relies on the hardiest equipment available on the market today.

Jackson began Yellow Water Fishing Safaris 11 years ago, taking clients Barramundi fishing in the Northern Territory’s iconic Kakadu region.

As his initial business requirements were for an outboard motor that could handle the challenge of the tough tropical conditions, Jackon’s choice of outboard motors from day one was Honda.

“I wouldn’t buy anything else. I reckon I’ve sold about three or four hundred Honda outboards to clients just from talking about mine so much” says Mr Jackson.

Starting with the BF50 4 stroke engine from Honda’s mid range, Dean upgraded to the high horsepower BF135 four stroke engine two and a half years ago and says it is unequalled.

“The BF135 is sensational. I’ve already clocked up nearly 3000 hours on it. Its performance, reliability and fuel efficiency are like nothing else out there on the market.”

Jackson usually takes groups of three fishing enthusiasts out at a time and, being known as an expert on Barramundi fishing and deft with lures, rarely brings his clients home without a respectable haul.

“Out of around 1500 clients a year, only about 30 haven’t caught anything.”

Many of his clients are repeat customers and will go on safari for two to five days.

“Having a four stroke Honda engine means I don’t have to worry about it breaking down or guzzling fuel,” says Mr Jackson.

A man with great passion for his sport and his business, Jackson is usually on the boat for ten hours at a time with activities including continuous slow idling and slipping the engine in and out of gear every three to five seconds for most of the day.

“The motor takes whatever I throw at it - like a dream,” says Mr Jackson.

The Honda BF135 four stroke outboard releases ultra low emissions and features both a Lean Burn Feedback control to give maximum efficiency at all speeds, and a Dual Stage Induction system which allows it to pull in more air to deliver top performance at high and low speeds.
