What type of fuel do I use in my Honda Power Equipment?
For all Honda Power Equipment petrol powered engines, you should use regular unleaded petrol.
Using other fuels may cause more combustion chamber deposits. Maximum content of alcohol (ethanol) is 10%.
How do I use my product?
Refer to your owners' manual or consult a Honda dealer for correct usage of your Honda product
Where do I locate my model number?
Refer to your owners' manual for the correct location.
What should I do if I'm having problems with my Honda Power Equipment?
This is a general check list, so your particular equipment's starting procedure may vary from what is recommended below, but in general most engines start this way.
- Is the engine switch in the on position?
- Is the throttle in the correct position?
- Is the choke on?
- Ensure you have adequate oil in the engine. Oil alert models will not allow you to start an engine that is very low in oil.
- Is the fuel tap on/or the fuel cap vent in the open position?
- Is the petrol getting to the carburetor?
- (To check, loosen the drain screw with the fuel tap on. Clean up any spilled fuel before any further checks)
- Remove spark plug (clean any dirt from area first)
If your engine still will not start, take it to your nearest Honda Dealer for service.
What oil do I use in my Honda Power Equipment?
We recommend a10W-30 SF SG spec oil as a minimum. Honda Power Equipment oil meets this specification and also has special additives for extra protection. This oil is good for all temperatures found in Australia (from -15 to +40)
How often should I change my oil?
Oil should be changed according to your owners’ manual - but more often in severe use or dusty conditions. We find that it is better to change the oil too often than not enough. Oil is cheap insurance against early engine failure.

What is ‘genuine Horse Power’?
Honda’s engine rating system provides consumers with genuine output figures based on Net horsepower (hp) and kilowatts (kW), rather than the standard SAE J1995 system which quotes maximum hp or kW.
The Net power figure better represents an engine’s actual performance, differing from the previous SAE J1995 standard of rating horsepower, which is measured without either an air-cleaner or muffler fitted. Measuring power output without the ancillary engine components fitted results in an inflated output figure that cannot be replicated in 'real world' conditions.
A brand new 5.5 hp engine, measured by maximum hp or kW, may only produce 4.8 hp after a muffler and air-cleaner have been fitted. If a customer required a 5.5 hp engine to power their water pump and tried to use a 4.8 hp engine they would be let down.
The Net power figure allows customers to more easily select Honda power products that best suit their needs.
